Artic Challenge 2008
Kevin Pearce not only took home the best trick title (with a massive 7.1 meter high inverted backside 540 doublegrab), he is officially ranked number one in the TTR World Snowboard Tour after being the overall winner in the 2008 Oakley Artic Challenge. His winning trick was his huge inverted backside 540 double grab.
In second place, Shayne Pospisil threw down some serious bangers along side a major frontside 360. Peetu Piiroinen of Finland took third place, with crowd pleasing amplitude and a mean backside 540, and also stuck the landing on the highest air of the day: 7.5m above the coping backside tailgrab. In fourth place was host and owner, Terje Haakonsen. Haakonsen came close to taking the highest air of the day with his backside 360 that won him a world-record last year. He was 8.3m above the coping but over-rotated and hand-dragged and the jump was not approved in the end.
With his super stylish Mc Twist, style-King Nicolas Muller landed the fifth place spot.
Unfortunately, his one-foot Mc Twisters ended in slams. Also worth mentioning are Daniel Josefsen and Ulrik Badertcher, both of Norway, and both going big and technical.
Pirate Love provided the music for everyone, including the snowboarders, to rock out to. And overall, the entire day at Holmenkollen Ski-jump Arena was superb.
