Level Skate Jam
The Level Skate Jam - 2007, held at Brighton’s Level Skate Park, was the first skate competition held at The Level since 2003. The skate park had been in serious need of repair, but was recently resurfaced and this competition was held in celebration of the new surface. One of the concerns before the resurfacing was that the park was in such a poor state and used by local kids on a daily basis, they were afraid of the Level becoming a breeding ground for criminal behaviors. The event went off without a hitch, and the new Level Skate Park is certain to host a better environment for local skaters.
Amir Williams and other Level locals along with skaters from as far away as Brazil came ready for big air and massive tricks. Amir took first place with tricks such as kickflip mutes over the big hip, back smiths, backside lipslides, and kickflip frontside boardslides down the Level’s killer handrail. James Kilpatrick came in 2nd after landing a variety of twisted flippy mantis style disco moves, and taking the win in the Nike 6.0 “Killing It” competition, while Tom Felix ended in 3rd place after going all balls-out with benihanas to fakie and massive kickflip melons over the big hip.
Isaac Miller took first place in the un-sponsored division, followed closely by Henry Canning and Ollie Chapman. All entry fees were donated to St. John Ambulance.
The event was hosted by Brighton based events agency, Ground Zero, and featured BMX demos and DJs such as the UK DMC Champion, JFB. Some of the sponsors of the Level Skate Jam included Nike 6.0, Dickies, GCI Technologies, Independent, Gumball 3000, Bikehut, and Evans Cycles.
