Oneill Evolution Quaterpipe - 2008

The results are in and the tricks were phenomenal. If you missed this competition, you missed today’s best pro snowboarders catching massive air, landing the trickiest landings, and literally soaring to new heights. It seems every year snowboarders are eager to break records and set new trends and this year proved to be no different. Riders like Colin Frei and Nicolas Mueller, both of Switzerland, and Manuel Pietropoli of Italy, showed just how high they were willing to go this year. These guys reminded us of what snowboarding was all about and why we love to watch it. Kim Rune Hansen was a big winner after rockin’ a flip-variation that won him 1000 ranking points and $15,000 USD. While many articles on the competition are mentioning “amplitude,” perhaps the best word to describe the feeling in the air is altitude, as that seemed to be the theme of the competition. Pietropoli hit 8.0 m, winning him the Swatch Highest Air and much respect from fans and fellow riders. Of course everyone was looking for a boost in the TTR World rankings, and a few received their wish. Swatch TTR World rankings after the O’Neill Evolution for the top two find Andy Finch (USA) in the Swatch TTR World No. 1 spot and Torstein Horgmo (NOR) ranked World No. 2. 05/06 Tour Champion, Mathieu Crepel of France, sat out of the Quarterpipe event; however, his Halfpipe run has him still ranked in the top 20 as World No. 19.
